The Fluffy Stage (it is temporary)


If you find yourself in the “fluffy” stage think of it as a temporary stage in your life. When I do a health history for a potential new client I am looking for the lowest hanging fruit first. The reason for this is that people want results and the fastest way to do this is to get rid of these items such as  poor sleep, sitting at a desk for 8-10 days a day, empty calories, low daily steps, etc. If you are already being honest about your movement and food choices then we start looking a little deeper into alcohol consumption, stress management, and hormones. The less weight you have to lose the more difficult the answer may be to find. The truth can be difficult to face. I have had so many clients tell me they eat a “clean” diet but as we work together they realize their choices were not as clean as they had thought. It is not necessary to make good choices 100% of the time in order to improve your health. A big part of the plan is finding the balance between your end goals and what you are willing to do.  Improving your health is important but not at the sacrifice of a happy life.

What causes the “fluffy” stages in life ? If you are a female you will most likely encounter more of these stages than men because hormones can be a big culprit when you start menstruation, pregnancy, post pregnancy, and of course the most evil of all , Menopause. Other stages which are also shared with men are high stress events/periods of time, lower activity times, 40+ age which is often due to drop in hormones such as testosterone, progesterone, and DHEA,  and increase in cortisol ,estrogen, and insulin. The good news is that is typically a solution. This may take some trial and error to discover the right recipe for your stage in life. Aging is a natural process which brings along  changes requiring attention. Eating right and moving often  works for many so it is always for the first step before reaching for any type of medication or supplements. Most people want to complicate this process, but it often comes Back to the Basics.
